Shirlington Real Estate
Located just around the corner from the major employment centers of Arlington and Washington, D.C., Shirlington is a vibrant urban village featuring a stylish collection of shops, a great diversity of restaurants, many with dog-friendly outdoor seating, a fabulous multiplex movie theater always featuring critically acclaimed first run movies, and to live theatres. On nights and weekends, the neighborhood pulses with busy restaurants and crowded streets full of people enjoying a night out.
Originally built in the 1940’s, renovated in the late 1980’s and significantly expanded in the past five years, the heart of the community is 28th St. There are over ten restaurants, from the Carlyle Grand Café, a modern American restaurant, to Thai, to Mexican to the Capital City Brewing Company, to Mexican to Busboys and Poets with its emphasis on locally sourced organic foods and a “green” operating ethic.
The two theatres are the Classika Theatre which presents a broad range of plays, from children’s to adult drams. The Source Theatre places on emphasis on musicals. Also located in Shirlington is the headquarters for WETA, Washington’s outlet for PBS television and NPR Radio.
While not within walking distance to a Metro station, Shirlington is served by an extensive network of Metrobus routes to and from the Pentagon City and Crystal City Metro Stations. Shirlington is conveniently accessed by car via Route 395 as well as local streets.
The attractions of the neighborhood have engendered the construction of a wide mix of multifamily housing from condo’s to townhouses to apartments. Most of these are located at the edge of but proximate to the commercial and retail core. These residences have attracted a wide mix of residents from young professionals to families with children as well as seniors, all of whom love the proximity to shopping, culture and good restaurants. There are plans for the construction of additional housing as well as additional commercial space. The neighborhood also is home to many parks, including Utah Park, Jennie Dean Park, a dog park and the terminus/beginning of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail which extends into rural Virginia.
