Douglas Park is located in S. Arlington meaning that the community is located to the South of Route 50. The community is triangle shaped, bordered on the north by Columbia Pike, on the southwest by South Four Mile Run Drive and on the southeast by South Walter Reed Drive. The community contains a mix of single family, townhouses and multifamily homes with the single family homes being focused on the quiet tree lined interior streets and the townhouses and multi family being concentrated along the major arterials. The single family homes tend to be 40-80 years old and a predominantly a mix of bungalows and Cape Cod styles with a few Queen Anne homes. Most of the homes range in size from 1200-2500 square feet. In addition, a smaller number of new homes have been built in the past ten years.
A major impact on the community is the revitalization of Columbia Pike. Extending from the Pentagon on the east to the Fairfax County border on the west, the street is the primary east-west arterial in S. Arlington. Over twenty years in planning and effort, revitalization is now moving ahead with new apartments, the return of a major grocery store, new shops and restaurants and a new Town Center. On weekend nights, the new bars and restaurants along Columbia Pike have become a popular destination for area residents in a similar manner to the Courthouse-Clarendon-Virginia Square neighborhoods in North Arlington. The community also is located close to Pentagon City Shopping Center which is anchored by Nordstrom and the recently built shops and restaurants of Pentagon Row.
One of the treasures of the community is the Columbia Pike Farmers Market which is open every Sunday year round in front of the Rite Aid store at the corner of Columbia Pike and South Walter Reed Drive. The market features locally raised fruits and vegetables from area farmers, fresh organic meats, baked goods, home made tortilla chips and home made pickles! Another popular community event is the annual street festival featuring free music, food, arts and crafts and kids activities.
